WHAT IS MIXED DENTITION STAGE?
Mixed dentition stage starts when the first permanent tooth appears in the mouth, usually at five or six years with the first permanent molar, and lasts until the last primary tooth is lost, usually at ten, eleven, or twelve years.
There are 32 permanent teeth and those of the maxillae erupt in a different order from permanent mandibular teeth.
The order is as follows:
Maxillary: 6-1-2-4-5-3-7-8
Mandibular: 6-1-2-3-4-5-7-8
The tooth numbering convention is according to FDI World Dental Federation notation
STAGES IN MIXED DENTITION:
First transitional period (6-8.5 yrs), in which the eruption of permanent 1st molars and incisors occur.
Inter-transitional period (8.5-10 yrs)
Second transitional period (10-12 yrs) include the eruption of canines, premolars and 2nd molars
